Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Motor Neuron Diseases research team. You will be involved in research studies designed to understand the biology behind various motor neuron diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. We are looking for someone who can complete both in vivo and cell-based assays to support the characterization and evaluation of novel disease models and use them as a preliminary system to evaluate potential therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. We hope you are excited to work closely with a broad cross-functional team to advance these novel therapies.
As a Senior Scientist, a Typical Day Might Include:
- Developing and characterizing cellular and animal models to test novel therapeutics.
- Collecting disease-relevant tissue from animal models of neurodegenerative disease and downstream processing including biochemical analysis, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy.
- Designing and implementing cell-based assays, and/or other novel technologies to better understand the mechanisms of neurodegeneration
- Analyzing and evaluating data.
- Presenting data both internally and externally, and participating in discussions in our collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
This Role Might Be For You If:
- You are interested in participating in our efforts to understand neurodegenerative diseases.
- You enjoy exploring unchartered scientific territory and are excited to learn new technologies.
- You have excellent communication and presentation skills.
- You thrive in a team environment and have strong collaborative skills.
- You can proactively work on multiple projects and prioritize as needed.
To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD with 0-3+ years experience or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, or related biological sciences with 10-12+ years of relevant experience. Experience with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, histology, tissue preparation, and cell culture are highly desirable. Some understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, the motor system, and RNA biology would be preferred.
