Legend Biotech is seeking a Sr. Scientist of Immunology as part of the Research & Early Development team based in Piscataway, NJ. 

Role Overview

Legend Biotech is an international commercial stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel cell therapies for oncology and autoimmune disease (AID) indications. We are seeking a Senior Scientist who will contribute to our growing pipeline of innovative cell therapy in AID area. Expertise in immunology and/or AID/oncology is required. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual who enjoys fast paced biotech environment. You will thrive in a collaborative work environment and gain skillsets in advancing multiple projects concurrently. Knowledge of state-of-art immunotherapy and its applications. As part of the Legend Biotech R&D team and under minimal supervision, you will be responsible for timely execution and delivery of projects in our discovery pipelines.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Isolate immune cells from leukopak or blood samples from healthy donors or patients, activation/expand immune cells and measure phenotypes through assays, such as multiple color flow cytometry, and perform functional assays including but not limited to cytotoxicity and cytokine secretion.
  • Virus genome engineering; package and characterize engineered virus particles with molecular assays; measure transduction rate using flowcytometry and conduct VCN analysis.
  • Develop and optimize immunoassays to detect host immune response to the virus particles, including neutralization activities.
  • Conduct functional analysis of immune cells transduced in vitro and in vivo; perform experiments to examine the persistence of CAR-T cells in vitro and in vivo.
  • Deliver experiment results to meet timeline with accountability.
  • Prepare and present reports, publications, presentations and patent application documents.
  • Keep accurate laboratory documentation, especially electronic lab notebook.
  • Maintain compliance with GLP and EHS protocols
  • Present results in small team and large functional group meetings.

Requirements

  • Ph. D. in immunology, oncology or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the field of cell therapy, immunology, self-replicating virology or AID.
  • Experience with in vivo CAR-T and/or deep understanding of AID.
  • Extensive experience in cellular and immune cell-based analytics and assay development, including but not limited to, advanced multi-parameter flow-cytometry, immunogenicity assay such as mixed lymphocyte reaction assay, cytotoxicity assay, cytokine release measurement using ELISA/MSD multiplex assay.
  • Extensive experience of lentivirus or self-replicating RNA engineering, packaging, tittering and related delivery methods and characterization assays.
  • Experience of in vivo tissue/cell-specific gene delivery in animal models is a plus.
  • Genome editing experience is a plus.
  • Strong hands-on skills and a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of immunology, immunotherapy, self-replicating virology and AID.
  • Track record of productivity evidenced by publications or patents.
  • Independently plan and timely execution of research programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A team player who can work efficiently as an individual.
